shippagan's windfest

Once again... it wasn't really windy for the shippagan's windfest.
Actually we knew the forecast wasn't looking great, but the weather on the acadian peninsula is always very difficult to predict... so we took a chance and decided to go anyway with a VERY optimistic thinking.
It finally paid out for about 12 knots on and off on monday.

The locals guys build a really nice slider before the new season started, but once again, I fell that very few people are motivated to move the slider and/or get something organize to manage a kite park in Shippagan.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to go back and ride it!

I had lots of fun in Cape Hatteras last week. The REAL KITEBOARDING park is so cool and the weather was so nice, no wetsuit needed in the laguna!
I've got lots of motivation watching the guys... Ruben, Alvaro, Aaron, Andre, Davey, etc.

No pictures because Mathieu wasn't allowed to take pictures... yeah, we were so disapointed.
I think it's because they had an exclusive agreement with an other photographer.
Anyway, the organizers were cool with us, Mathieu should be able to shoot next year and they told us to come back whenever we want to ride and shoot on their park!

My plan (flying for kiting) came true and it only begins! I'm incredibly happy!

I was there with Julie, a friend of mine, also flight attendant at Air Transat.

Ok... where to start!
Let's say I didn't kite since a long time now... a real long time!! Actually, you could probably figure it out by yourself just by looking at the number of news I posted since September 24th! 181 days to be precise!

It's not because I'm done with kiting, NOT at all... it's because living from kiteboarding is not an easy task!
Since 2002, kiteboarding as been my main source of revenue (sponsors, IKO instructor, IKO examiner), but at that time, I was 19, I was living in the sun and the only clothes I had to buy where bikinis!!
But life is much more expensive in Canada!! Surprisely (actually, not really) the money companies has for kiteboarding is not proportional (bad timing probably as the sport is still not well known)!!

So I had to think of a way I could continue to live my dream but also make a descent living!
The solution I found: Flight Attendant.
More or less 14 days off a month, flexible schedules, a suitable salary and... flying advantages!

I had 2 interviews with 2 different companies at the end of last summer and I chose to work with Air Transat. I spend 2 weeks at the end of October studying at home on my computer before I attempted Air Transat Academy for 3 weeks in November. I graduated on December 7 and on December 11 I was moving to Vancouver for a permanent full time job.

Here I am since then and I love it!
It's already spring over here and we got a whole bunch of powder in the mountains this winter.
I have effectively lots of days off but also lots of pay time down south waiting for my next flight! I already went many times to Varadero, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Montego Bay as well as Regina, Winnipeg, Edmondton and Calgary I visited for the first time!

I'm presently on a probation period until June, but I'm looking forward to use my days off to go kiting and surfing outside the country afterward!
But before that, it's far to be boring as in 2 weeks I have a 65h layover in Puerto Plata (Cabarete)... being paid to go kiting! Awesome!

So this transition period was the whole reason why I did not put lots of news on my blog lately. I'm real motivated and I'm sure I still have lots of great kiteboarding years to come.

Ok... par où commencer!
Et bien, disons que je n'ai pas fait de kite depuis... humm... pas mal trop longtemps!!! Vous pouvez voir qu'il n'y a pas eu beaucoup de nouvelles sur mon blogue depuis précisément 181 jours!

Ce n'est surtout pas parce que j'ai arrêté le kite, mais parce qu'en vivre ce n'est pas évident!! Depuis 2002, le kite était ma source de revenu principale (sponsors, instructrice IKO, examinatrice IKO), mais bon j'avais 19 ans, je vivais au soleil et les seuls vêtements que j'avais besoin d'acheter étaient des bikinis.
Au Canada, la vie est pas mal plus chère!!! Mais l'argent que les compagnies ont pour le kite par contre n'y est pas proportionnel (mauvais moment faut croire, le sport n'est pas encore assez connu)!!!

J'ai donc pensé pendant quelques mois à la façon qui me permettrait de continuer à vivre mon rêve tout en pouvant vivre convenablement.
La solution que j'ai trouvée: Agent de Bord.
Environ 14 jours de congé par mois, un horaire flexible, un salaire convenable, et surtout des avantages de voyage non négligeables!

J'ai passé 2 entrevues pour 2 compagnies différentes à la fin de l'été dernier et c'est avec Air Transat que j'ai choisi de travailler. J'ai été en formation intense tout d'abord à la maison sur internet durant environ 2 semaines à la fin octobre et ensuite, 3 semaines à l'Académie Air Transat. J'ai gradué le 7 décembre dernier et le 11 décembre je déménageais à Vancouver pour un poste temps plein et permanent.

Je suis à Vancouver depuis et j'adore ça. On a déjà des fleurs, les terrasses sont ouvertes et on a eu de la poudreuse en masse cet hiver. J'ai effectivement beaucoup de temps libre, mais aussi beaucoup de temps payé au soleil entre 2 vols. Je suis allée plusieurs fois à Varadero, à Cancun, à Puerto Vallarta, à Punta Cana, à Puerto Plata, à Montego Bay sans compter Regina, Winnipeg, Edmondton et Calgary que j'ai eu la chance de visiter pour la première fois!

I'm happy about it, but it would have been cool they told me. ;)

Today is my sixth day on Shippagan and I've got 2 kite two times yet.
I came back especially to ride the sliders we built last June with my new slider board (which I painted myself... so much fun to play the airbrush artist!)
I'm crossing my fingers for more wind for the upcoming week, but the weather over here is so unpredictable. Often the forecast from Windguru, Méteo Canada and Météomedia are not the same!!
At least the temperature is great and we can enjoy good time at the beach when it does not blow.
I'll try to catch some sessions on video with my camera in my lines...

Je suis à ma sixième journée à Shippagan aujourd'hui et j'ai kité que 2 fois jusqu'à maintenant.
Je suis revenue spécialement pour rider les modules que nous avons construit en juin dernier avec ma nouvelle planche de sliders (que j'ai paint moi-même... c'était trop cool de m'improviser peintre au airbrush!)
Je croisse mes doights pour plus de vent pour la prochaine semaine, mais la météo est tellement difficile à prévoir ici. Souvent les prévisions de Windguru, Météo Canada et Météomédia ne sont même pas les même!!
Au moins la température est chaude et on peut profiter de la plage en attendant le vent.
Je vais essayer de filmer quelques sessions avec ma caméra dans mes lignes...

Hey! Long time, hein? ;-P
I know, I did have much kiting going on lately, so not much to say either!
As I wrote in my last post, I was in Shippagan all June.
I was supose to be there for training, shooting and the C suck C event we organized, but things have been going on differently because of... miss meteo!
For the 3 weeks I had left after the IKO instructor training course I gave, I probably kited about 7 times.
Not too good for training and shooting.
And for the C suck C event, same thing, about 40 minutes of wind in the 3 days we had.
It was just enough to tease the participants but not enough to complete the event.
We got couple of good shots (see below) and we might repeate the event next year, with some changes.
So probably you are wondering what we did all this time? Mostly eating crabs and lobsters, drinking beers and... we also built some sliders and kickers with other bored kiters!
The initial project was to build one, but finally ends up into 6 different ones, partly made from remaining construction material from some locals riders sheds (see below, photos: M. Couture)!
Afterward we came home to welcome home 2 frenchies (from France) we met in Brazil, and in Montréal for about 10 days. Then it was my 25th birthday on July 16th... old lady, and finally we went for 5 days in Boston and Cape Cod area because Mathieu, was in the 10 finalists (from 334) of the N'East Red Bull Illume Workshop contest... a alternative sports photo contest for all the East coast of North America. It was lots of fun!
P.S. Check out N'East, it is a great mag.
So now, I will be soon going back in Shippagan for an other 2 weeks, to ride thoses sliders and kickers we built and than I did have mush time to try.
So that is it pretty much about the latest news.
I really hope to come back from Shippagan this time with a bunch of new photos.

Hey! Ça fait longtemps, hein? ;-P
Je sais! Je n’ai pas kité beaucoup dernièrement, donc je n’avais pas grand chose à dire! Comme je vous avais dit dans mon dernier message, j’étais à Shippagan tout le mois de juin.
J’étais supposée y être pour m’entrainer, faire de nouvelles photos ainsi que pour l’évènement C suck C que nous organisions, mais les choses ont tournées un peu différemment, à cause de… miss météo!!!
Durant les 3 semaines que j’avais de libre après la formation IKO d’instructeur que j’ai donnée, j’ai dû kiter environ 7 fois.
Pas génial pour s’entrainer, n’y pour prendre de nouvelles photos.
Et pour l’événement C suck C, même chose, on a eu environ 40 minutes de vent durant les 3 jours de l’événement.
C’était assez pour donner le gout aux participants, mais pas assez pour compléter l’évènement. Nous avons quand même eu quelques bonnes photos (voir plus bas, photos: M. Couture) et nous répéterons peut-être l’événement l’en prochain avec quelques petits changements.
Alors probablement que vous vous demandez ce qu’on a fait tout ce temps?
Et bien on a mangé du crabe, on a bu de la bière et… on a aussi construit des sliders et des kickers avec d’autres riders ennuyés par les conditions météos!

C’était vraiment cool!
Maintenant, je me prépare à retourner à Shippagan pour un autre 2 semaines, pour rider ces modules que nous avons construits et que j’ai à peine eu le temps d’essayer.
C’est pas mal tout quand aux nouvelles pour le moment.
J’espère vraiment revenir de Shippagan avec de nouvelles photos.

Shippagan, NB

I'm presently in Shippagan, NB for the next 2 weeks and a half.
Actually, I arrived here 1 week and a half ago and believe it or not, we saw 2 deers, 1 moose and 1 bear on the road.
I'm here to train and to shoot as well as hold the "C suck C un shooting" event on June 23-24th during their annual Windfest.
I will be back with a movie of the highlights of our trip at the end of the month!

Je suis présentement à Shippagan, NB pour les 2 prochaines semaine et demi.
En fait, j'y suis arrivée il y a déjà 1 semaine et demi. Et croyez le ou pas, on a vu 2 chevreuils, 1 orignal et 1 ours sur la route.
Je suis ici pour m'entrainer et pour faire de la photo en plus d'organiser l'évènement "C suck C un shooting" durant leur annuel Windfest le 23-24 juin prochain.

IKO c'est fini :: i'm done with the IKO

C'est en terminant cette deuxième formation IKO (d'une série de 2 que
j'ai données au cours des 2 dernières semaines) que j'ai finalement remis ma démission
à l’IKO. Bien qu’il y ait de bons côtés à cette organisation, leur façon de travailler et plusieurs lacunes dans leur organisation m’ont plus que démotivées au cours des dernières années. Loin d'être prise sur un coup de tête, cette décision a été réfléchie puisque j'y pensais depuis déjà plus d'un an.
J’ai toujours de la motivation pour l’enseignement du kite et pour le développement du sport, mais pour l'instant je vais me concentrer sur mon « riding ».

I just resigned from my IKO examiner job, right after the second IKO instructor training course I gave in the past 2 weeks. Although there is good points to this organisation, their way of working and the real present gaps into their organisation, really de-motivated me in the past year. That is the reason why I decided to dissociate from them. Far to be on impulse, this decision has been thoughtful through the past year. I'm still have motivation for kiteboarding teaching methods as well as the developement of the sport but I will for concentrate on my riding.

On June 23-24th, 2007, during Windfest in Shippagan, we will hold the premiere of C suck C un shooting.
This is your opportunity to do what you have always wanted to do, the chance to participate in a real professional photo and video shooting. This activity is organized to give you the opportunity to live that experience but also to let you realize how much work there is behind every kite photo and video. A DVD with the personal footage and photos of every candidate will be edited at the end of the project and distributed to all participants.
Organized by, professional photographer Mathieu Couture, professional video director Martin Durocher and professional kiteboarder Daphnée Laliberté.

Le 23 et 24 juin prochain, lors du Windfest de Shippagan, nous lancerons la première de C suck C un shooting.

SBC Kiteboard (#23)

Colin Field, signed a funny article in the latest issue of SBC Kiteboard (#23).
It concerns the fact that some kite riders wear boardshorts over their wetsuit some don't.
If you think about it, wakeboarders do, surfers and windsurfers don't.
I personnaly don't wear them over a full suit but I do over a shorty (only for style) because I don't think shorties look good.
Anyway it was a pretty good subject for an article I think and he decided to illustrate his paper with a photo we did in a fisherman port last year, saying " Why stop at just a boardshorts? Daphnée Laliberté covers up too!". Look at the picture you will understand!

Il s'interroge sur le fait que certains riders de kite portent des shorts par dessus leur "wetsuit" tandis que certains ne le font pas.
Si vous y réfléchissez quelques instants, vous vous rendrez compte que les wakeboarders le font, mais que les windsurfers et les surfers ne le font pas.
Personnellement, je n'en porte pas par dessus un "wetsuit" long, mais j'en porte (pour le style) par dessus un court. Je ne trouve pas que les "wetsuits" courts mettent trop trop en valeur les gens!!!
De tout façon, j'ai trouvé intéressant le sujet de son article et il a décidé de l'illustrer par cette photo qu'on a fait l'été passée dans un port de pêcheur. Il dit: "Pourquoi s'arrêter qu'à un short? Daphnée Laliberté le fait aussi!". Regardez la photo, vous comprendrez!

Back from Florida...

Hey!
It has been already more than a week since I arrived home from Florida!
Actually it has not been such a great kite trip. Not much riding.
The truth? 2 days out of 13!!!
At least I was over there with my family too so it has been good on this side!
We even did not get wind for the Kite 4 Girls event... no wind, except 2 littles tornados of 2 minutes each! Enough to blow away many kites, umbrellas and pop-up tents!
I came back by car with my grandpa and it when really quick, only 2 days!
I'm now working hard on some kite projects for the summer and I hope to go away on a last kite trip before the summer starts!
I'm looking for Cuba or may be Cap Hatteras in North Carolina or Corpus Christi in Texas, if you have any good input, let me know!

Hey! Ca fait déjà presque 1 semaine que je suis de retour de Floride.
En fait, ça n'a pas été le meilleur voyage de kite!! Pas beaucoup de temps sur l'eau.
La vérité? 2 jours en 13!!!
Au moins j'étais là-bas avec de la famille, donc ça l'a été cool quand même!
On a même pas eu de vent pour la compétition Kite 4 Girls... pas de vent excepté 2 mini tornades de 2 minutes. Assez pour faire envoler plusieurs kites, parasols et tentes démos!
Je suis revenue en voiture avec mon grand-père et ce fut assez rapide, seulement 2 jours!
Je travaille présentement fort sur quelques projetcs de kite pour l'été et j'espère pouvoir repartir pour un autre trip de kite avant que l'été commence. Je regarde pour Cuba, Cap Hatteras in North Carolina ou Corpus Christi au Texas. Si vous avez de bons conseils laissez moi savoir!

I'm flying to Florida this morning!
I will be training over there for 2 weeks but also competing in a girls event in Miami on April 7th. The "Kite 4 Girls" event will hold a boarder cross competition and some more pro women are expected.

I'm really proud to announce that I will be riding Xcel wetsuits from now.
Xcel is an American company which has been created when I actually came into this world, in July 1982!!
Firstly dedicated to surfing, they developed a bunch of specific gear over the years for diving, paddling, wakeboarding and sun protection.

I have a full instructional part in the DVD that comes with the magazine and some images in the part dedicated to the canadian step of the PKRA.
I personnaly think it is more funny that educational, but never mind!!

I have 4 pages in the current issue of the SBC Kiteboard.
I'm glad it finally came out, because we had sick shots from our trip in Shippagan (NB), last summer.

I'm presently in Montréal renewing my all my contracts for 2007... and believe me, it's always a long process!!
So I'm taking advantage of this desk job time to improve and change my blog... as you probably noticed!
It takes me SO much time (I'm completly unqualifed with Photoshop and HTML!!!)
But anyway, I'm pulling through!
I'm waiting to close all my contracts before etablishing my final 2007 calendar.
It should be done soon... I hope!

Je suis présentement à Montréal en train de renouveller tous mes contrats pour 2007... et croyez moi, c'est toujours long!!
Alors je profites de ce temps devant mon ordi pour améliorer et changer mon blogue... comme vous avez probablement remarqués!
Ça me prend vraiment BEAUCOUP de temps (car je suis loin d'être qualifiée en Photoshop et en HTML!!!). Mais je m'en sort quand même pas si mal!

paradise St. Lucia

- I just received a touristic guide from St. Lucia by mail, in which I have a picture.
The name of the guide is "Paradise St. Lucia", it is published twice a year and distributed for free in differents hotels, and touristic places for sure.
The picture was taken over there last May with Dani Devaux.
It just teases me to get back there one more time!!

* Je viens tout juste de recevoir par la poste un guide touristique de St-Lucie, dans lequel j'ai une photos.
Le nom du guide c'est "Paradise St. Lucia", il est publié 2 fois par an et distribué gratuitement dans différents hôtels et endroits touristiques certainement.
La photo a été prise là-bas avec Dani Devaux en mai dernier.
De voir ça ce matin... ça me donne qu'envie d'y retourner!!

- During my trip in Brazil they were 2 TV shows broadcasts in which I was interviewed. Both were filmed during the PKRA World Cup in the Magdalen Islands, last September.

Ce fût si tannant d'entendre ma famille et les gens autours de moi durant Noël m'agacer concernant cette petite vacances imprévue que j’ai prise de mon blogue dernièrement que… je suis de retour en force !!!
Faut croire que ça l'a fonctionné! :-D
Donc je suis en forme pour vous faire un update de tout ce que j’ai omit de vous dire durant les dernières semaines… mais aussi pour le garder à jour avec tout ce qu’il m’arrivera en 2007 !
Et tant qù'à recommencer du bon pied, j'ai donné à mon blog un nouveau look (puisque je crois qu'il en avait grandement besoin)!

Let's say I've picked up the Brazilian rhythm in the past weeks... that is the reason why I did not post much news since November 11th (and my family did not missed to told me)!!!
Difficult to resist to the Brazilian lifestyle after 2 months over here!!!Anyway, I will enjoy to the fullest my 4 last days in Paracuru, but don't worry, once back in the cold I will have plenty of time to give you the full story of the end of our trip!
P.S. Today is an important day for me... I passed my first flat 360!!!
It was THE trick I really wanted to land during my trip! WOOHOO!

Disons que j'ai eu un petit relâchement depuis le 11 novembre dernier quant aux nouvelles sur mon blogue (et ma famille c'est chargée de me le rapeller)!!!
Faut croire que le rythme de vie brésilien commence à rentrer après 2 mois ici!!!
Je profite pleinement de mes 4 dernières journées ici mais ne vous inquiètez pas j'aurai amplement de temps une fois rendue au froid pour vous faire un petit résumé de la fin de notre voyage!
P.S. Aujourd'hui c'est un grand jour... j'ai passée mon premier flat 360... c'est LE "trick" que je voulais vraiment passer durant mon voyage! WOOHOO!

La fin de semaine dernière (4-5 novembre), c'était la 3ième étape du circuit amateur de surf de Paracuru. C'était cool... et il y avait du bon niveau!
Les vagues n'étaient pas très grosses, mais "AIE AIE AIE", LE SPOT!
Ce n'est pas demain la veille que je vais allée surfer là!
Des rochers partout, souvent à fleur d'eau. Bof, je vais passer mon tour! ;-)
Durant la marée montante il y a même eu un moment où le "take off" se faisait entre les piquets! Voici quelques photos...

Last weekend (November 4-5th), it was the 3rd step of the amateur surf circuit of Paracuru. It was fun... there were some good riders!
The waves were not that big, but "Aie Aie Aie", THE SPOT!
I'm far to be good enough (and/or confident enough) to surf there. There is big rocks everywhere and often in shallow water. At one point during the weekend, the guys were doing their take off in between rods. Here are some photos...

Certes on connait le Brésil pour le soccer, mais connaissez-vous la capoeira?
La capoeira, c'est un art martial brésilien né d'une lutte africaine rituelle interdite jadis et pratiquée par les esclaves.
Maintenant, la capoeira c'est surtout un mélange de danse, de jeu et de combat (sans touché)dans une atmosphère enjouée et respectueuse. C'est vraiment très beau à regarder, et très populaire ici. Il n'est pas rare de voir des rodas sur la plage ou sur les places publiques.
Durant les rodas, petits, plus vieux, débutants et maîtres se regroupent en cercle, en chantant et tapant dans leur mains, durant que 2 "combattants" s'opposent sur le son du berimbau, du pandeiro et de l'atabaque.

No doubt Brazil is known for is soccer culture, but have you ever heard of capoeira? Capoeira is a brazilian martial art, that originally came from a ritual african wrestle, practiced but prohibited to the slaves. Now, capoeira is above all a mix of danse, game, and no hit fighting.It is really nice to watch and very popular over here. It's not rare to see rodas on the beach. During the rodas, childrens, olders, beginners and masters are getting into a cercle and "fight" in a cheerful and respectfulatmosphere while everybody else are clapping their hands, singing on the berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque music.

Notre tournée à Fortaleza, c'est super bien déroulée, mais a été assez épuisante!!
Du magazinage à 35 degrés, habillée en jeans en en souliers (pour essayer de se fondre dans le plus possible au peuple brésilien... bien que j'ai les cheveux blonds!!!)... le moins souvent possible! ;-)
On a fait quelques petits achats, mais on s'est surtout payé un très bon souper dans une des meilleur churrascaria.
Le principe? Tant que tu gardes le signal au vert sur ta table, des serveurs viennent à tout les 2-3 minutes pour t'offrir environ 18 viandes apprêtées de toute sorte et tout droit sortie des cuisines... ensuite à toi d'accepter ou refuser ce qu'on t'offre. Quand tu as besoin d'un repos, tu tournes le signal au rouge! Et ça, c'est sans parler du buffet!Un tarif et tu manges à volonté... de la folie!
Pas besoin de vous dire qu'on a dormi dans le taxi sur la route du retour! ;-)

Our trip in Fortaleza has been really nice but also quite tiring!! Shopping when it is 35 degrees, wearing jeans and shoes (yes, we suggested to us to try to look like the Brazilians as much as possible... even if I have blond hairs!!!)... not too often! ;-) We bought some little souvenirs, but above all we went for an incredible dinner at one of the best churrascaria in Fortaleza. The concept? As long as you keep the green signal turn on on your table, waiters are coming to offer you about 18 different piece of meat, then you can accept or refuse what they offer you. When you need a break, you just have to turn the signal to red!1 price and all you can eat. You should have seen the buffet too... crazy!
No need to tell you that we all slept in the cab on the way back! ;-)

- J'ai eu l'air d'une belle touriste cette semaine! Peut-être vous souvenez-vous qu'en mai dernier lors de mon voyage à St-Lucie, j'avais pris en photo l'arbre qui donne les noix de cachew. Mais sur la photo, on ne voyait pas très bien les fruits...
Donc cette fois çi, puisque par ici le fruit du cachew est utilisé à toutes les sauces (crème glacée, jus de fruit, popcicle, etc.) je voulais partager ça avec vous et vous montrer de quoi ça l'a l'air un cachew!
Voici donc:

I definitely passed for a real tourist last week! May be you remember the picture I took of a cachew tree last May during my trip in St-Lucia? On that picture, we could barely see the fruits...
So this time, as cachew fruits are used for lots of things over here (ice cream, popcicles, juice, etc.) I wanted to "share"this with you and show you what a cachew looks like!
Here it is:

Le fruit c'est la partie jaune, la noix se trouve à l'intérieur du truc vert. Vous comprenez donc surement pourquoi les cachews coûtent si cher... 1 noix par fruit.
Je savais que le fruit était cosmestible, mais que la noix parcontre, devait absolument être cuite avant consommation, car sinon elle est toxique. Mais encore une fois, dans un élan de générosité et de partage envers vous, j'ai voulue couper le tout pour assouvir votre soif de curiosité!!! Hi! Hi! Hi! J'ai donc demandé un couteau au petit restaurant où je me trouvais, et j'ai tout d'abord coupé le fruit. Ensuite, je me suis attaquée à la noix... c'était pas mal plus coriace. Finalement quand je suis arrivée à bout de couper ce truc, 3 brésiliens que je connais un peu, sont venus vers moi presque affolés, me disant d'arrêter ça tout de suite, que c'était dangereux, que c'était comme de l'acide et d'aller me laver les mains immédiatement (me faisant ainsi sentir comme une pure touriste un peu stupide)!
AIE AIE AIE! Bravo Daph! Mais bon, comment pouvais-je savoir!?
Anyway! Au moins on a une photo!

The yellow part is the fruit, the nut is inside the green part. You probably now understand why cachew nuts are so expensive... 1 cachew per fruit. I knew that the fruit was comestible, but that the nut absolutely needed to be cook to be eaten... otherwise it is toxic. One more time, in order to share more about this experience with you (Hi! Hi! Hi!), I cut the fruit in 2 to show you the inside.I first started with the yellow part, and then continued with the nut, the green part. It was quite rough. When I finally succeed, 3 Brazilians that I know, came to me and told me to stop immediately, that it is dangerous, the inside is acid and to wash my hands right away (at that moment I felt like a pure stupid tourist)!

Pour ma part, je n'ai jamais rien vu d'aussi rudimentaire. Ce type de bateau est utilisé pour des pêches d'une journée en mer... pas trop loin des côtes quand même!

We leave today for a day trip in Fortaleza with 3 other friends. Shopping in differents markets and a huge dinner in a good churasscaria are the plan! I will be back to you soon!

Notre première semaine à Paracuru, a plutôt été synonyme d'installation!
Our first week in Paracuru was all about installation!

- On a dû se trouver un moyen de transport. La location d'une voiture ou d'un buggy étant assez cher... nous avons optés pour quelque chose de plus économique...
We first had to find a means of transport.A car or buggy rental is quite expensive, so we chose something more affordable...

Nous sommes les heureux propriétaires de 2 vélos 1 vitesse. Un en super état, l'autre avec 10% des freins!
Yes, we are the happy owners of 2, 1 gear bicycles. One is in good shape, the other has about only 10% brakes!

- On s'est aussi trouvé un logement. Mais on a été agréablement surpris! Pour 250$ can. par mois, on s'attendait à moins bien. Voici une petite visite de notre appart...
We also found an apartment for the lenght of our stay. We have been pleasantly surprised as for 250$ can. per month we were not expecting as good. Here is a little tour of our apartment...

- Le trajet en vélo pour se rendre à la plage de kite étant beaucoup trop long, on s'y rend àen moto-taxi tout les jours. Par contre pour se rendre sur la majorité des spots de surf, les distances en vélo, sont bien. Mais bon fallait-il trouver un moyen de trimbaler les surfs en vélo.(P.S. Il y a beaucoup trop de vent pour tenir le surf d'une main et pédaler de l'autre... vous devriez voir les rues aussi!!).
Je pensais donc demander à Michel (le prorio du Formula 1, un resto près des spots) si on pourrait le payer pour laisser nos surfs en storage à son restaurant. Mais Mathieu était entêté à fabriquer un support à surf derière un vélo, pour plus de liberté. J'étais assez froide à l'idée, puisque je nous imaginais déjà à la quincaillerie expliquer avec notre portuguais exécrable, qu'on avait besoin de tiges d'aluminium, de vis, de roues, etc. Je trouvais bien plus simple l'idée de payer quelqu'un pour laisser nos surfs chez lui. Mathieu a donc montré un petit esquisse de son plan à nos amis surfeurs brésiliens, et ils ont tous rit, lui disant"Impossible em Brazil".
Mais croyez le ou non, pas plus de 6 heures après, Mathieu avait confectionné (avec beaucoup d'efforts linguistiques etd'allers-retours à la quincaillerie), le support qui en a épaté plus d'un et qui nous est TROP utile!
Comme on nous a dit, il y a fort à parier que l'an prochain, il y aura plus d'un support comme celui-ci dans le coin!
Chapeau Math! Voici le chef d'oeuvre...
The bicycle ride in between our apartment and kite beach is way too long. We get there by moto-taxi everyday. On the other hand, the distances in between the surf spots and our apartment are OK. But still we had to find a way to carry the surfs on our bicycles. (P.S. The wind is too stong so we could not have ride the bike with one hand and carry the surf with the other one.)
I taught we could ask Michel (the owner of Formula 1 restaurant, which is not far to the surf spots) and pay him to leaveour surfs at his restaurant. But Mathieu was obstinate to build a rack for the boards behind one of the bicycle, for more freedom. I was not really enthusiast to the idea as I was already picturing ourself at the hardware shop trying to ask in a terrible portuguese that we want alunimium stems, screws, wheels, etc. I was convinced that it would be easier to ask Michel to pay him to leave our boards at his place. Mathieu showed a little sketch of his plan to our brasilian surfers friends.They all have been laughing telling him "Impossible em Brazil".
Believe ot or not, less than 6 hours after, Mathieu had built that rack (with lots of linguistic efforts and lots of runningto the hardware store)!
The rack has impressed more than one, and up to now is SO useful to us.Some local foreigners told us that there is lot to bet than there will be more than 1 rack like this one next year in Paracuru!

- En kite tout va super bien, ça fait longtemps que je n'ai pas eu de bonnes sessions somme celles-ci. Je rentre des nouveaux tricks... WOOOHOOO!
On the kiteboarding side, everything is going good! It has been a long time I did not have good sessions like the ones I presently have!I'm landing new tricks.... WOOHOOO!

- Ma camera numerique a brisée, je ne sais pas comment, mais disons que ça n'arrive pas au bon moment et surtout pas au bon endroit, impossible de faire réparer ca ou d'en acheter une autre pas trop loin!Une chance que Math est là avec son matos photo, mais bon ce n'est pas aussi pratique! :-(
My digital camera just broke! I don't how it happened, but for sure it did not happened at the right time and place. Impossible to get it repair or to buy an new one around here. At least Math has all his photo gear with him, but it is not as practical! :-(

- Alors comme vous pouvez le voir, ici tout va bien... malgré que le soleil se couche à 17h30 tout les jours. On c'est fait une simili routine bien plaisante d'une session de kite et d'une session de surf practiquement tout les jours. On a rencontré des Suisses et des Français super super gentils, donc les soirées sont cool!
J'essairai de vous tenir au courant de nos histoires aux 7-10 jours, ce n'est pas trop évident d'accéder à Internet ici!

So as you can supose, everything is going smooth here for us... even if the sun goes down at 17h30 everyday! We got into a simili routine of one kite and one surf surf session a day... not too bad! We met some nice Frenchmans and Swiss over here, so the evening are great.
I will try to keep you post of our adventures about every 7-10 days, because Internet acces is not that easy over here!

Petit problème avec 1 des bagage...
On s'est rendu compte après notre arrivée qu'il y a une des valise (et sont contenu) qui a ététranspercée par quelque chose lors du transport (objet quelconque, genre une tige de métal de10cm). Le contenu? 1 kite... mais un kite plié en 16 = 16 trous à réparer! NOOOOONNNNN!Merci kitefix!
We've only got 1 problem with our luggages...
We realized (after our arrival) that one of the suitcase (and his content) has been transpierced by something (something like a 10 cm metal stem). So what? The content was a kitefold in 16 = 16 holes to repair. NOOOOOOOOO!Thanks Kitefix!

J'ai acheté de la crème solaire 50 et 30 avant de partir... je n'ai pas de photos pour vous montrer, mais je peux vous dire que ça n'a pas été suffisant!
I've bought sunscreen FPS 50 and 30 before we left... I do not have any photos to show you, but I can tell you it was not enough!

Les seuls téléphones qu'on a trouvés jusqu'à maintenant pour téléphoner à la maison = 5$can/3 minutes.

Ça y est je suis prête... hummm... enfin, presque! ;-)
Ce fut une dernière semaine "à fond la caisse", mais ce n'etait pas si pire quand tu sais qu'il y a 2 mois de bon temps qui suivent!!
On part ce soir de Montréal vers New York, ensuite de New York à Sao Paulo et mercredi après 11h d'attente à l'aéroport, un dernier vol de Sao Paulo vers Fortaleza.
Au total, environ 28h the voyage entre notre aéroport de départ et celui d'arrivée!
Notre destination finale: Paracuru, soit environ 2h d'autobus de Fortaleza.
Le vent et les vagues nous attendent là-bas!!
S'il y en a un d'entre vous qui y est déjà allé, n'hésitez pas à me faire part de vos bons plans!
Mot the la fin: Pour une fois, vive Octobre et Novembre! HiHiHi! P.S. C'est chien, hein?

That is it, I'm ready to leave... or... almost! ;-)
It was an exhausting last week, but still it was not too bad when you know that the 2 following months will be mellow!!!
We are leaving tonight from Montréal to New York, then from New York to Sao Paulo and finally, our last flight is wednesday night from Sao Paulo to Fortaleza.
In total, around 28h of travel in between our departure and arrival airports!
Our final destination is Paracuru, about 2h hour drive from Fortaleza.
Wind and waves are supose to be waiting for us down there!!
If somebody have already been there, do not hesitate to contact me to give me your goods address!

Ce mois-ci, c'est au tour du Magazine 8 de présenter le kiteboard (et de me mettre à l'avant plan du même coup)!
Magazine 8, c'est un nouveau magazine québecois, le concept: 8 magazines en un.
Je n'ai pas encore eu la chance de feuilleter ce premier numéro, mais je trouve l'idée originale.
Il est parcontre assez difficile à trouver, semble-t-il qu'il serait disponbible dans les Jean Coutu et dans les dépanneurs. Pour ma part, ma mère l'a trouvée au Archambault.

I didn't have the chance to have a look at the magazine yet, but I think it is an original idea.

Virgin Festival

I'm right back from the Virgin Festival in Toronto.
It was great, no rain and lots of good groups were playing (The Strokes, Muse, Ill Scarlet, DJ Champion, Kid Koala, etc.).
But the best part of the weekend was for me to finally meet the 3 other girls of the Virgin Mobile Xtreme team... Alex (snowboarding), Amanda (snowboarding) and Laura (wakeboarding).
The girls are cool and we had a good time together.
We've got to meet Richard Branson shortly yesterday by pure coincidence. Actually, while surrouding by an incredible amount of people (medias, photographers, curious, etc.) he surprisingly recognized myself and took the time to come to say Hi (Wow! That was really nice from him, I am glad).
Note: Remember, I went kiteboarding on his island last November.
We had few minutes to introduce each girl of the team and took a photo all together with him!I'm going to work to get this picture and post it soon! ;-)

Je viens tout juste d'arrivée du "Virgin Festival" à Toronto.

En fait, il était entouré d'une quantité impressionnante de personne (médias, photographes, curieux, etc.) quand étonnamment il m'a reconnu et a prit le temps de venir me voir pour me saluer (Wow! C'était vraiment gentil de sa part, je suis très contente).
NDLR. Souvenez-vous que je suis allée faire du kite sur son ile en novembre dernier.
Nous avons eu quelques minutes pour lui présenter chaque fille de l'équipe et avons prit une photo tous ensemble avec lui!
Je vais chercher à récupérer cette photo et vous la montrer dès que je peux! ;-)

All the 4 girls of the Virgin Mobile Xtreme team we will meet for the first time... it should be a lot of fun!

Finally we've got the same wind patern during the PKRA than last year!
No wind for almost all the event and strong winds on the last day.
At least we've got enough time to complete the double elimination as well as the second discipline, the racing.
About the racing... I am resentful about something.
To give you a short story, all the races were mixed (women and men together, but with a separate ranking).
As I just explained, because we only got wind on the last day of the event, it was a huge day on the water for all of us. But they decided to stop the women after 7 races and continue with the men for an other 3 races because apparently, some women were complaining of tireness, etc.
I could not believe it. It's a World Cup and because some women were tire of their day, they decided to stop us?! It would have been correct if they would have stop the guys and girls at the same time, but, no... that was not the situation.
For my point of view, when you have 2 persons who want to race there is a competition to have! It's not because some of the girls had the ranking they wanted after 7 races and were complaining about there tireness that you can stop everybody like this.
It was for me the chance to get a better ranking.
Anyway, I went to the judges to explain my point of view but they did want to hear anything... probably there were a political thing under that!
It sucks...
Anyway, I'm quite satisfied of my freestyle ranking... I finished 5th.
Not too bad for for the only World Cup I did this year.
But one of the most important thing for me was also to see what were the tricks the girls on the World Cup tour were doing... so I know on which tricks I will be training in the following months!I'm now back in Montréal... the drive back was so long!

Finalement nous avons eu le même schéma de vent que l'an dernier!
Pas de vent pour presque tout l'événement, mais du vent fort pour la dernière journée.
Au moins on a eu assez de temps pour terminer la double élimination ainsi que la deuxième discipline, le triangle olympique.
A propos de la deuxième discipline... j'ai quelque chose sur le coeur.
Pour vous donner la petite histoire, toutes les courses étaient mixtes (femmes et hommes ensemble, mais avec un classement séparé).
Comme je viens de vous expliquer, puisqu'on a eu du vent que durant la dernière journée, c'était une grosse journée sur l'eaupour nous tous.
Ils ont décidés d'arrêter les femmes après 7 courses et de poursuivre avec les hommes pour 3 autres courses, parce que semble-t-il quelques femmes se sont plaintes de fatigue, etc.
Je ne pouvais pas le croire.
C'est une Coupe du Monde et parce que certaines filles se plaignent de fatigue, ils décident d'arrêter nos courses?!
La situation aurait été correcte s'ils avaient arrêtés les hommes et les femmes en même temps, mais non, ça n'a pas été le cas.
Selon moi, quand il y a 2 personnes qui veulent prendre part à une course, il y a une course à avoir!
Ce n'est pas parce que quelques filles ont le classement qu'elles veulent après 7 courses et qui se plaingent se fatigu que tu peux arrêter les courses comme ça.
C'était pour moi la chance d'obtenir un meilleur classement.
Je suis allée expliquer mon point de vue aux juges, mais ils n'ont pas voulu rien y entendre.
C'est vraiment nul...De toute façon, je suis quand même satisfaite de mon classement en freestyle, j'ai terminée 5ième.
Pas si mal pour la seule Coupe du Monde à laquelle j'ai participée cette année.
Mais une des chose les plus importante pour moi c'était de voir les "tricks" des filles qui font toutes les Coupe du Monde afin de savoir sur quels tricks je vais m'entrainer dans lesprochains mois.
Je suis de retour à Montréal... la route de retour fut longue!

It's quite boring at the moment at the PKRA World Cup in the Magdalen Islands.
Our last days can be summarised by: waiting on the beach from 9h to 16h.
The wind shut down 3 days ago so we are all waiting for the wind so we can get back on the water and start the double elimination and finish the second discipline.
I'm really crossing my fingers for wind as it is for me the chance to get a better result than the one I have presently.
At least it was warm and sunny today.

Yesterday night, I've been invited for dinner at Myriam's parents place. Myriam is a really nice local kitesurfer and all her family had prepare a great fresh clams and cockles dinner for us.
Thanks you Pierre, Lise, Guillaume, Myriam and Yannick, it was fantastic!

C'est assez ennuyeux à la Coupe du Monde PKRA aux Iles de la Madeleine pour le moment.
Notre dernière journée pourrait se résumer par: attendre sur la plage de 9h à 16h.
Le vent a arrêté de souffler il y a 3 jours et depuis nous attendons tous son retour afin de pouvoir retourner à l'eau pour commencer la double élimination et terminer la 2ième discipline. Je croise mes doights pour que le vent revienne puisque c'est pour moi la seule façon d'obtenir un meilleur résultat que celui que j'ai présentement.
Au moins il a fait beau et chaud aujourd'hui.

Hier soir j'ai été invitée à souper chez les parents de Myriam. Myriam, c'est une kitesurfeuse locale et toute sa famille avait préparée un excellent repas de palourdes et coques bien fraîches.
Merci Pierre, Lise, Guillaume, Myriam et Yannick, c'était délicieux!

toujours aux Iles de la Madeleine :: still in the Magdalen Islands

Et bien non, ce n'est pas vrai, l'eau n'est pas si chaude que ça!!
En fait, semblerait-il que depuis que je suis arrivée, la température ai vraiment changée... hummm... peut-être bien que les madelinots ont des histoires de météo au lieu d'histoires de pêche!!!

Alors, pour vous faire un petit résumé de mon séjour jusqu'à maintenant...
3 jours après mon arrivée, j'ai prit part au Challenge Canadien qui s'est tenu le 23-24-25.
Étant la seule femme inscrite dans la catégorie Femmes Pro (il y a avait 2 catégories Pro et Amateur), j'ai donc gagnée par forfait le titre de Championne Canadienne.
Dommage, car j'aurais bien aimé pouvoir gagner ce titre autrement!
Mais bon, ne reste qu'à espérer que l'an prochain quelques compétitrices amateures s'inscriront dans la catégorie Pro.
J'ai donc finalement prit part à la compétition, mais dans la catégorie Hommes Pro.
Ce fut un peu plus de challenge, mais j'ai quand même réussie à terminer 6ième parmis les 8 inscrits.

Le 25 au soir ce fût la cérémonie de fermeture du Challenge Canadien, mais aussi la cérémonie d'ouverture de la Coupe du Monde PKRA... la raison principale de ma venue aux Iles.
Donc depuis hier matin, les compétitions ont commencées et ce jusqu'au 31 août.
Hier on a pu compléter la simple élimination, mais aujourd'hui le vent a décidé de prendre congé,
donc repos pour tous le monde!
Mon premier heat hier était contre Jo Wilson de l'Angleterre. J'ai perdu ce heat, mais j'ai bien l'intention de me reprendre durant la double élimination qui aura lieu dès que les conditions de vent le permetteront! En fait, l'an dernier c'est ce qui m'était arrivé, j'avais perdu mon premier heat contre la championne en titre Kristen Boese de l'Allemagne, mais j'avais pu remonter jusquà la 3ième place durant la double élimination.
Mon prochain heat sera contre la Melissa Gil du Costa Rica.

Ensuite dès que la double élimination sera terminée, nous aurons comme 2ième discipline un triangle olympique. C'est la première fois qu'il y aura ce type de course sur la Coupe du Monde PKRA comme 2 discipline. Je dois vous avouer que ce n'est vraiment pas ce qui m'excite le plus... mais bon mon expérience en compétition de dériveur va surement me servir à bien performer!

Sinon c'est bien sympa de revoir les gens de la PKRA.
Je vous tiendrai au courant d'ici la fin de la semaine.

No… it’s not true, the water is not that warm !!
Actually, the locals told me that the weather really changed since the day I arrived on the islands… hummm… I’m suspecting them to over embellish the weather conditions!!! ;-D

To give you the short story of my stay up to now…
3 days after I arrived, I took part of the Canadian Challenge on august 23-24-25.
I was the only woman register in the Pro Women category (they were to categories, Pro and Amateur), so I finally won by default the Canadian Champion title.
I would have like to win it in an other manner, but now I just have to cross my fingers to hope that some women from the Amateur category will register in the Pro one next year.
So I joined the guys in the Pro category instead.
It was more of a challenge, but I finally finished 6th of the 8 registered.

During the evening of the 25th i twas the closing ceremony of the Canadian Challenge but also the opening ceremony of the PKRA World Cup… the main reason why I’m here in the Magdalen Islands.
So since yesterday, the competitions started and that until august 31th.
Yesterday we had time to complete the single elimination, but today the wind decided to take a day off…
My first heat was against Jo Wilson from UK.
I lost that heat, but I will be back in shape for the double elimination, and I’m sure I will do better. Remember that last year I’d lost my first heat against the current World Champion Kristen Boese from Germany, but I came back and won all my other heats to the 3rd place during the double elimination.
My next heat will be against Melissa Gil from Costa Rica.

Then when the freestyle will be over, as the second discipline we will have an Olympic triangle course. It’s the first time that this discipline will happen during the PKRA World Cup.
To be honest it is not something really exciting to me, but I have to say that I’m sure that my competition experience racing small sailing boats will be useful.

It’s nice to see again everybody from the PKRA.

tout juste arrivée aux Iles de la Madeleine :: I just arrived in the Magdalen Islands

This time it appears to me, that it was a long ride to get here, in the Magdalen Islands.
Probably because I did the road by myself and because It was not my first time. At least I had my Ipod to wake me up!
But as always, once you are here, you don't regret!
I arrived this morning at 7 a.m., no wind at the moment, but les locals already told me that the wind season is good and the water warm... yes, warm!! No wetsuit needed apparently!
May be we won't have to go south anymore to kite in warm water... that would be great... but palm trees and merengue music are nice too!
I will check it out and will be back to you with the truth!! ;-D

Cette fois çi, la route vers les Iles de la Madeleine m'a parue plus longue qu'à l'habitude.
Probablement parce que j'ai fait la route seule et parce que ce n'était pas la première fois. Au moins j'avais mon Ipod pour me réveiller un peu!
Mais comme toujours, une fois ici, on ne regrette pas les 12 heures de route!
Je suis arrivée ce matin à 7h. Pas de vent pour le moment, mais les locaux m'ont dit qu'ils ont eu une incroyable saison de vent jusqu'à maintenant et que l'eau était chaude... oui, chaude!! Pas besoin de wetsuit semble-t-il!
Peut-être n'aurons-nous plus besoin de nous rendre vers le sud pour kiter dans de l'eau chaude... ça, ça serait cool... mais j'avoue qu'il manquerait quand même les palmiers et le merengue!
Je vais vérifier ça et vous revenir avec la vérité!! ;-D

Ça fait 1 an que mon blogue existe!
Mais ce qui est le plus drôle dans tout ça, c'est qu'il y a un an, à la même date, le 18 août 2005, j'écrivais mon premier message pour vous dire que je partais en voiture vers le Iles de la Madeleine pour la Coupe du Monde PKRA.
Aujourd'hui, 18 août 2006, je vous écris aussi pour vous dire que je pars en route vers les Iles de la Madeleine pour la Coupe... tatati et tatata!

Je vous donnerai des nouvelles tout au long de mes 2 semaines là-bas!

But the funniest thing, it's that one year ago, on August 18th 2005, I was writting my first post to tell you that I was driving to the Magdalen Islands for the PKRA World Cup. Today, on August 18th 2006, I'm writting to tell you that I'm leaving to the Magdalen Island for the PKRA... bla bla bla!

On m'a donné la solution pour éviter les publicités automatiques vraiment nulles sur mon blogue et à partir d'aujourd'hui vous pouvez de nouveau y laisser vos commentaires et/ou petits mots, sans devoir vous enregistrer.

This "thing" is the most exciting part of my stay in Shippagan, in New Brunswick (Canada)... and there is a whole story around it! ;-)
Cette "chose" est la partie la plus excitante de mon passage à Shippagan, au New Brunswick (Canada)... et il y a toute une histoire qui vient avec! ;-)

On June 29th (to be precise), after a terrible freestyle session at "Petit Pokemouche" (yes, that is the name of the spot... don't forget that we are in New-Brunswick, in the Acadian Penincula!!!) I decided that I needed to do something else for the rest of my journey in New-Brunswick. Something new, something fun!
Le 29 juin précisément, après une mauvaise session de freestyle au "Petit Pokemouche" (oui, oui c'est bien le nom du spot... on est chez les Acadiens du Nouveau-Brunswick, il ne faut pas oublié!!!) j'ai décidée que j'avais besoin de me concentrer sur quelque chose d'autre. Quelque chose de nouveau et de motivant pour ma dernière semaine là-bas!

While talking with Mathieu (photographer and good snowboarder, wakeboarder and skateboarder), we decided to built our own slider... thus I could have fun with something new and he could take sick shots of me! :-D
Since that moment, we only had one idea in mind, building that slider... with or without help from the others!
En discutant avec Mathieu (photographe et bon wakeboarder, snowboarder, skateboarder) on a décidé de se construire un slider... comme ça je pourrais m'amuser sur quelque chose de nouveau et lui pourrait faire des photos de malade! :-D On avait donc qu'une idée en tête, construire ce slider... avec ou sans aide!

So we when to talk about it with our friend Eric, which own a kite school down there.
He also had the idea of building a slider during the summer in front of his school (but not necessary to start tomorrow morning)!!!
With a little bit of perseverance we managed to let him understood that we were going to built this slider with or without his help, but that we really wanted him to jump with us in the project!
On est donc parti parlé de notre plan à notre ami Eric Girard qui a une école là-bas et qui avait aussi comme projet d'en bâtir un au cours de l'été (mais pas nécessairement le lendemain matin!!) et avec un peu de persévérance il a vu qu'on était vraiment motivé à en construire un le lendemain matin, avec ou sans lui, mais nous, on préférait quand même l'avoir avec nous!!! ;-)

He accepted and told us that the father-in-law of his employee, Adam, was renovating his restaurant and could give us lots of 2x4 for free. By the way thanks to them, Le pirate Maboule!
A few calls later, we arranged to get some wood for the next morning (and we did have to pick it up, they delivered, Acadian are so nice!!).
So as promise, Camil, the son of the restaurant owner (also kiter), delivered the wood in the garden of Eric's school, Shippagan Wind & Kite. (P.S. It was 5 o'clock in the morning and he was just going home after a big party!!!)
Il a accepté et nous a dit que le beau-père de son employé, Adam, avait plusieurs 2x4 qu'on pouvait avoir gratuitement puisqu'il rénovait son restaurant, Le pirate Maboule (qu'on remerci en passant!).Donc quelques coups de téléphones plus tard... on savait qu'on aurait du bois de livré (et oui... même pas besoin d'aller le chercher, ils sont vraiment gentils ces Acadiens) dès le lendemain matin!C'est bien ce qui s'est passé, à 5 heures du matin, Camil, le fils du restaurateur (kiteur aussi et... tout droit sorti d'un party qui devait être le fun en titi!!!) débarquait le bois dans la cour de l'école Shippagan Wind & Kite.

So during the day, Mathieu, Eric, Adam and myself have been: removing the nails from the 2x4, chopping, screwing, driving to town to buy some plywoods and pipes, screwing one more time, driving in town one more time to buy some more screw, paint, cardboard, screw once more time, cut of stencils of our sponsors' logo from the cardboard, painting under a carport because it was raining, etc.
The next morning we only had to become graffiti artists for an hour to spray paint our sponsors' logo with the stencils, on the huge Acadian flag we painted on the whole slider the night before!
Durant la journée Mathieu, Eric, Adam et moi avons donc: enlevés les clous des 2x4, coupés, vissés, étés en ville chercher des "plywoods" et des tubes de plomberie, re-vissés, retournés en ville chercher d'autres vis, de la peinture et des cartons, re-vissé, découpé des pochoirs de nos commanditaires, peinturés sous un abri "Tempo" à cause la pluie, etc.Le lendemain matin, il ne nous restait qu'à s'improviser graffiteurs et peindre à la "cacanne" les pochoirs de nos commanditaires sur le magnifique drapeau Acadien qu'on avait peint la veille sur l'ensemble du slider!

We had to way for the wind an extra 2 days... but to get the story more spicy... that day, the water was way too chopy to ride our slider... it was moving up, down, left and right!
SHIT!
Plan B, we needed to move the slider to an other location, Chiasson Office, a spot with incredible glassy water, more or less 10-15 minutes further.
On a dû attendre le vent pour 2 jours, mais pour ajouter à l'histoire... cette journée là il y avait beaucoup trop de clapot en face de l'école d'Eric... le slider bougeait de tout bord tout côtés!MERDE!
Plan B, déplacer le slider à Chiasson Office (un spot où l'eau est toujours calme à 10-15 minutes).

But there were no way we could find a trailer, and when we finally found one, they were no car big enough to pull it... AHHHHHH, I could not believe it!
Mathieu and myself finally decided to call for a towing! 70$ and we finally got the slider on the perfect location... and the sunset there were just amazing.
Pas moyen de trouver un remorque. Vient à bout de trouver une remorque, mais pas de voiture suffisamment forte pour le tirer... AHHHHHH, on capote!Mathieu et moi on a finalement appellé un camion remorque pour le déplacer et 70$ après on avait le slider au bon endroit!

I've been riding the slider for the rest of the afternoon... in order to get a little practice before we start to shoot! ;-D
Then, the wind shut down for 3 days, but we were sure it would pick up once more time before we leave for Nova Scotia, as it is almost always windy down there!
To be sure not to miss any wind session, we decided to sleep and to wait for the wind directly on the spot! Lucky we were as some of our friends came to visit us and spend their evening by the campfire with us. ;-)
J'ai donc pu apprendre à le rider pour le reste de l'après-midi, histoire de me pratiquer un peu avant qu'on prenne des photos! ;-D
Ensuite, pas de vent pour 3 jours. Mais on savait bien que ça allait reprendre, il vente toujours par là-bas. En plus, c'était l'endroit IDÉAL pour des photos, puisqu'on avait des couchés de soleil de fous en arrière plan. Pour être certain de ne pas râter d'occasions (avant notre départ prévue pour la Nouvelle-Écosse), on a donc dormi et passé nos journées entières sur le spot à attendre le vent! Une chance plusieurs amis sont venus passés leurs soirées avec nous au bord du feu! ;-)

So finally with lots of patience and for sure a little bit of luck, we finally got to coordinate the wind direction, the wind speed, the sunset, the tides, the flashs, the rider and the photographer to get...
Donc avec un peu de chance doit-on l'admettre et beaucoup de patience, on a finalement réussi à coordonner avant notre départ, la force du vent, la direction du vent, le couché de soleil, les marées, les flashs, la rideuse et le photographe pour ceci...

NO, I'm just kidding, we got really really good shots, but we keep them for the magazines and thoses are the only ones Mathieu allowed me to use on my blog for the moment!!
But as soon as I know in which magazine they will be publish, I will let you know!
Mais non, je rigole, on a vraiment vraiment de bonnes photos, mais pour l'instant on a gardé l'exclusivité pour les magazines et ce sont les seules photos que Mathieu m'a permit de mettre sur mon blog! Mais dès que je sais dans quel magazine elles seront publiées je vous dirai!

But to be true, I'm glad that I've been part of the construction of this slider... I didn't only ride the slider of somebody, I've been riding OUR slider! It's even more rewarding! ;-D
Mais pour dire vrai, je suis particulièrement fier d'avoir participée activement à la construction... je n'ai pas ridé le slider de quelqu'un, mais bien NOTRE slider! C'est encore plus satisfaisant ;-D

Xtreme Summer Fest

Comme dernière étape de mon voyage de kite dans l'est du Canada, c'est à la Baie de Beauport que je me suis rendue la fin de semaine dernière (21-22-23 juillet) pour l'Xtreme Summer Fest puisqu'on m'y avait invitée comme porte-parole de la compétition de kite.
Pas de chance côté météo puisque faute de vent la compétition a été annulée, mais malgré tout, on a quand même bien rigolé!
Il y a eu de super bonnes démos de skate, de trial et de mountain board... de quoi nous animer en attendant le vent!! Et que dire de la bière qui coulait aussi à flot! ;-)
Bien que le vent nous ai agacé toute la matinée dimanche, c'est finalement 1 heure avant la fermeture de l'évèvement qu'il a subitement levé! Pas de compétition, mais tous les inscrits à la compétition (et moi-même) étions bien content d'avoir une petite session à l'eau avant la fin de la fin de semaine!
Le kite étant encore assez peu connu au Canada, l'évènement et ma carrière en kite ont suscités tout un intérêt des médias et voici plus bas un aperçu de la belle couverture médiatique dont nous avons pu profiter...
Plus de détails sur le reste de mon voyage dans les prochains jours! Disons que j'ai débutée par la fin! ;-)

Last weekend it was at Baie de Beauport that I ended my kite trip around the eastern provinces of Canada. I was invited there as the spokesperson of the kite competition taking place during the Xtreme Summer Fest (July 21-22-23).
No luck... the kite competition did not happen because of a lack of wind, but we managed to have fun anyway!
They were good skateboarders, trial guys and mountain board rider that were invited to give us a good show during couple of demos... it was nice to watch while waiting for the wind!! And meanwhile, the beer was flowing! ;-)
It is only 1 hour before the closure of the event that the wind finally decided to pick up!
Not enough time to get the competition started, but all the competitors (and myself) were more than happy to go for a ride before the end of the weekend!
Because kiteboarding is not really well known in Canada yet, the event and my career aroused a great interest from the medias and here below is a preview of the great coverage we've got through the weekend...

I'm back to Montréal, after 5 weeks of kite trips, mainly on the east coast of Canada. I have been travelling around and living in a minivan, called The Bed & Breakfast for thatoccasion (pictures and details to come soon)!!!
We left from Montréal (Québec) to Shippagan (New-Brunswick), then to Halifax (Nova Scotia)where the water is freezing cold, then crossed the St-Lawrence river from Rivière-du Loup to drive back on the north shore stopping to Baie St-Paul for a couple of days and finally to Québec city (Québec) for the Xtreme Summer Fest where I was invited as the spokesperson for the kite event.
It was lots of fun and I have now plenty of things to tell you and pictures to show you.
Internet connexions were not that easy to find, so that is the reason why I did
give you much details during the trip.
BUT... you can be sure that I will be back to you couple of times this week to share the full story with you.

Je suis tout juste de retour à Montréal après 5 semaines de voyages de kite, principalement sur la côte est du Canada.
J'ai voyagée et habitée dans une minivan pour la durée du séjour... appellée Le Bed & Breakfast pour l'occasion (photos et détails très bientôt)!
Nous sommes partis de Montréal (Québec) vers Shippagan (nouveau-Brunswick), ensuite nous avons continués vers Halifax (Nouvelle-Écosse) où l'eau était glaciale et avons traversés le St-Laurent à Rivière-du-Loup pour revenir sur la côte Nord en arrêtant à Baie St-Paul (Québec) pour quelques jours et finallement dans la ville de Québec (Québec) pour le Xtreme Summer Fest, où j'étais invitée comme porte-parole pour l'évènement de kite.
J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir durant ce voyage et j'ai maintenant plusieurs choses à vous raconter et plusieurs photos à vous montrer.
Ça n'a pas été très facile d'avoir accès à des connexions internet durant le trip c'est pourquoi je n'ai pas pu vous donner trop de nouvelles.

Voici quelques photos de notre simili VR dans lequel je vis depuis 3 semaines maintenant!!
Et la dernière photo est une photo du projet sur lequel nous avons travaillés dernièrement... un slider aux couleurs de l'Acadie!
J'ai pu l'essayer il y a 4 jours, mais depuis, on attend le vent pour pouvoir faire des photos avant de partir vers la Nouvelle-Écosse.
Je vous raconterai l'histoire de ce slider sous peu... il est fait que de motivation!!!

I tried it already 4 days ago, but since then we have been waiting for wind to shoot. After then, we will leave for Nova-Scotia.

Hi there!
I still in Shippagan (New Brunswick, Canada), but it's not easy to keep in touch from here!Internet connexions are not that accessibles and it's usually windy and sunny until 22h!
So it's just to let you know that everything is going good... training, shooting and living in a minivan! It's so great!
We had the Wind Fest last weekend but it wasn't windy... too bad! At least it was lot of funto see most of the kiter from Quebec and New Brunswick!
I will be back to you as soon as I can with photos of this nice trip, for sure!
Around July 6th we are driving to Nova Scotia to continue our trip in the Maritimes!

Je suis toujours à Shippagan (Nouveau Brunswick, Canada) mais c'est pas facile dedonner des nouvelles d'ici! Les connexions internet ne sont pas si accessibles et il fait soleil et vente généralement jusqu'à 22h!
Alors c'est simplement pour vous dire que tout va bien... je m'entraine, on fait des photoset je vis dans une minivan! C'est vraiment cool!
On a eu le Wind Fest la fin de semaine dernière, mais il n'a pas vraiment venté... trop dommage! Au moins c'était vraiment sympatique de voir la majorité des kiteboarders du Québec et du Nouveau- Brunswick!

on the road to Shippagan :: sur la route vers Shippagan

Je suis partie mardi soir de Montréal... direction Shippagan, Nouveau-Brunswick (Canada). Environ 9 heures de route. Je suis montée toute seule mais de la manière relaxe, en 2 jours. Des vraies vacances... musique à fond et soleil. La route c'est bien fait... sauf que la route 180 après St-Quentin, elle est longue en titi! Environ 1h15 dans le bois... le vrai bois, sans maisons, sans poteaux électriques, sans rien... à croiser qu'une voiture ou un camion de temps à temps. En tout les cas, tu pris pour qu'aucune pièce de la voiture rende l'âme sur cette route là!

Quelques kilomètres avant ça, j'ai toujours le même fou rire lorsque je me rend dans les Maritimes et que je passe par St-Louis du Ha! Ha!.
Comment ils ont décidés de donner un nom pareil à une ville... je ne sais pas quand ça c'est passé, mais j'aurais aimé ça être là car ça devait être un bien bon party!

Arrivée à l'école de Eric Girard, Shippagan Wind & Kite, c'est un spot de fou. Des couchers de soleil de malades à tous les soirs et la "vida tranquilla"! Ca fait du bien!
Je donne une formation d'instructeurs IKO à partir de samedi pour 5 jours et ensuite, je serai ici à m'entrainer et à faire des photos jusqu'au 6 juillet environ. Il y aura aussi le Wind Fest, le festival annuel du kite et de la planche à voile de Shippagan, durant le congé de la St-Jean Batiste... beaucoup de monde, de vent, de soleil et de bières sont attendus au rendez-vous!

P.S. La photo c'est pour vous prouver que St-Louis du Ha!Ha! ça l'exsite!!

I left from Montréal, last tuesday night... going to Shippagan, New-Brunswick (Canada). It was about a 9 hours drive. I've been driving by myself, but I did it the relax way, in 2 days. Real vacations... with loud music and sun! The driving went easy... but the road 180 after St-Quentin is so boring!It's about 1h15 in the forest, but the real one... no houses, no power lines, nothing... crossing a car or a truck once in a while. For sure you pray not to have any problems with your car on this road!

Few kilometers before that, I still always laugh when driving to the east side of Canada andpassing through the city of St-Louis du Ha! Ha!. Man who gave this name to this city... I have no clue when it happened, but for sure I would have love to be thereas it was probably a good party!

Once arrived at Eric Girard's school, Shippagan Wind & Kite, I was amazed by the spot. The sunsets are marvelous almost every nights and life is easy! It's so nice!
I give the IKO instructor course starting saturday, for 5 days and then, I will be training and shooting here until approx. July 6th. We also gonna have the Wind Fest taking place during St-Jean Batiste holiday... lots of people, wind, sun and beers are expected!

P.S. The shot... it's my proof for St-Louis du Ha!Ha!

Hi there!
It's just to let you know I've got a 2 pages article in the last issue of Xtreme Mag, a french Canadian teenagers' magazine. There is also 1 page article about each team member of Velum Gravity. The magazine is presently available in the bookstores.
I'm presently preparing myself to leave for New-Brunswick in mid-June... we are building a camper into a mini van!
I will be back with more photos of our "do-it-yourself" camper van!

Voici quelques photos de mes 2 derniers jours à St-Lucie.
Par chance le vent a fini par souffler avant mon départ!! Il était temps, car 11 jours sur un "spot" de kite sans vent (quand ça fait quelques mois qu'on a pas naviguer) c'est assez poche!
C'est un peu comme manger une sandwich au beurre pour souper quand on meurt de faim ou bien partir en Floride au mois de janvier pour prendre du soleil et se retrouver avec de la pluie toute la semaine... belles comparaisons, hein?
J'ai pu en profiter pour "rider" en bikini dans l'eau chaude... avant d'enfiler mon "wetsuit" pour le reste de la saison que je passerai au Canada! ;-)
Les photos sont de Dani Devaux... on a eu bien du plaisir. Merci à elle de s'être fait brasser en zodiac pour moi!
Mon voyage à St-Lucie a été super et les gens que j'ai rencontré au "The Reef" très acceuillants.

Here are some pics from my 2 last days in St-Lucia.
Lucky, I finally got wind before I left!! It was just about time as 11 days on a kite spot without wind (when you did not kite since couple of months) it's awful!
It is like eating a bread and butter sandwich for dinner when you are starving or even going to Florida in January for sunshines and getting heavy showers all week long... nice comparisons, hein?
I took time to enjoy riding in bikini in the warm water, as it won't happen for the rest of the summer... wetsuit and cold water, as I will ride in Canada!
Dani Devaux took the shots... we had lots of fun. Thanks to her as she as been tossed in the zodiac for me for many hours!
My trip in St-Lucia as been great and the people at "The Reef" really welcoming.

in St-Lucia as a tourist :: à St-Lucie en touriste

* I have lots of thing to tell you today! First of all, the ITC ended up yesterday. Everybody was happy, even if they could not finish their evaluation, because of the weather conditions. We all when to a local BBQ with the owners and some other guests to celebrate and have fun. So now that I'm done with that, I still have 4 days for kiting and hopefully get some kiteshots. The wind forecast is better, but still it changes for worst conditions everyday. Today, as the wind was not strong enough, 2 candidates from the course and myself, decided to go around the island, to see at least a little more of St-Lucia before we leave!We took a taxi and when to Soufière... where are the emblematic Pitons, sulphur springs and volcano. Actually I really wanted to see bubbling mud. :-D
The taxi driver was really nice and was our touristic guide on the road, explaining us lots of different things about the culture, the history, and the vegetation of his country.
Here is a view of the Petit Piton (right) and Grand Piton (left)... the famous mountains from St-Lucia.
* J'ai plusieurs choses à vous raconter aujourd'hui! Premièrement, la formation s'est terminé hier. Tout le monde était content, même s'ils n'ont pas pu terminer leur évaluation à cause des conditions de vent. Nous somme tous allés manger du BBQ dans un endroit local avec les proprios du centre et quelques autres clients du club pour célébrer et rigoler un peu. Alors maintenant que j'ai terminée la formation, j'ai encore 4 jours pour kiter et faire des photos je l'espère,avant mon départ. Les prédictions météos n'est pas si mal, mais change quand même en pire à tous les jours.Aujourd'hui, puisque le vent n'était pas assez fort, 2 candidats du ITC et moi avons décidé d'aller faire un tour sur l'ile, pour au moins voir un peu plus de St-Lucie avant notre départ! Nous avons prit un taxi et nous sommes partis pour Soufière... où sont les emblèmatiques Pitons, les sources d'eausulphureuse et le volcan. En fait, je voulais vraiment voir de la boue bouillonner! :-D
Le chauffeur de taxi était vraiment sympa et a fait guide touristique sur la route, nous expliquant plusieurs chosequant à la culture, l'histoire et la végétation de son pays.
Voici une vue du Petit Piton (droite) et du Gros Piton (Gauche)... les fameuses montagnes de St-Lucie.

* Then we when to the sulphur springs and volcano, were it was really interesting. We had a guide which was explaining lots of things. And? I saw bubbling mud!!!You can see the steam over it. This mud is about 180 Celcius degres... so better not to get a bath, otherwise it will be your last one!!!
* Ensuite, nous sommes allés aux sources sulphureuses et au volcan. C'était vraiment très intéressant.Il y avait un guide qui nous a expliqué un tas de truc. Et? J'ai vue de la boue bouillonner!!! Vous pouvez voir la vapeur au dessus. La température de la boue est d'environ 180 degrés Celcius... alors mieux ne pas allerprendre un petit bain car ça risque d'être votre dernier!!!

* The water of the brooks surrounding the volcano's area is really warm and gets all those sulphur properties... which are supose to be great for your external body. We when for a swim in this sulphur's water, but the water was so warm that it took me at least 5 minutes to submerged completly. The water color was dark grey.
* L'eau des ruisseaux environnants la région du volcanest très chaude et acquiert des propriétés sulphureuse... qui sont soit dit en passant suposées être très bonne pour la peau. Nous sommes donc allés pour un petit bain dans ces eaux, mais l'eau était tellement chaude que ça l'a du me prendre un bon5 minutes pour me submerger complètement. L'eau était grise foncée.

* I forgot to tell you that the smell around this area, is awful... it is like bilion of... cooked eggs. So yes, you can figure out that we were not smelling that good after that therapeutic bath! We finally when to a botanical garden were it was possible to see all different type of trees, flowers, fruits, etc. It was the first time in my life I had the chance to see a cashew tree and a huge bamboo plantation.

* J'ai oubliée de vous dire que la senteur autours du volcan est affreuse... c'est comme des milliards... d'oeufs cuits. Alors oui, vous pouvez imaginés qu'on ne sentait pas très bon après ce bain thérapeutique!! Finalement, nous avons terminé avec un jardin botanique où nous avons pu voir plusieurs espèces d'arbres, de fruits, de fleurs, etc. C'était la première fois dans ma vie que j'ai eu la chance de voir un arbre à cashews et une énorme plantation de bamboo.

in St-Lucia (part 3) :: à St-Lucie (suite)

Hi there...
Everything is going good here in St-Lucia with the IKO instructor course exept for the wind.
The candidates are now supose to practice, but there is no wind.
I'm a little tire, but it is normal... looking forward for friday night, end of the training.
Life is mellow here. But it's funny because the spot is directly beside the international airport of the country... so everyday around 15h we get around 5 big planes leaving just above our head! Almost like the picture I have on my website that was taken in St-Marteen last year.
Also, they are driving on the "wrong" side of the road and the stering wheel is on the right side, lots to get confuse! :-D
You remember the story that happened to me in Necker Island last november? When the wind died then my kite felt in the water and I had to swim in between 2 islands for about 45 minutes?
I've talked with one of the candidate who's from the British Virgin Islands, but whom is also a diver, and he told me that the area is quite "sharky". And not small ones... some tiger sharks! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
At least I did know at that time, because I would have been way more stress. Happy to still have both of my legs and arms!

Tout va bien ici à St-Lucia pour la formation d'instructeurs de kiteboard IKO, mis à part le vent qui nous fait défaut.
Les candidats sont doivent maintenant pratiquer ce qu'ils ont vu en théorie, mais il n'y a pas de vent.
La vie est tranquille ici. Mais c'est rigolo car le spot est collé sur l'aéroport international du pays, donc chaque jour vers 15h il y a environ 5 gros avions qui nous décolent au dessus de la tête!
C'est un peu semblable à la photo qui a sur mon website qui a été prise l'an dernier à St-Martin.
En plus, ils conduisent du "mauvais" sens par ici et le volant des voitures et à droite, assez pour semer la confusion! :-D
Vous vous souvenez de l'histoire qui m'est arrivé en novembre dernier sur l'ile de Necker? Lorsque le vent a tombé et que du même coup mon kite est tombé dans l'eau et que j'ai du nager entre 2 iles durant 45 minutes?
J'ai discuté avec un des candidat qui vit dans les Iles Vierges Britanniques, mais qui est aussi un plongeur, et il m'a dit que cet région est assez connu pour ces requins. Et pas que des petits... des requins tigres aussi! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Au moins je n'ai pas su ça avant que ça m'arrive car j'aurais été un peu moins relaxe. Vivement que j'ai toujours mes 2 jambes et mes 2 bras!

in Saint Lucia (part 2) :: à Sainte Lucie (suite)

Here are some photos to show you the place... REALLY rustic, hein? But it's really nice and relaxing!
The name of the spot is Sandy beach, located in Vieux-Fort.
Still the wind did not show up today... grrrr. I'm working on my tan instead! ;-p
Tomorrow I start teaching, with the first aid course... so not to be cynic, but probably the wind will blows tomorrow! :-D
I still have an extra 4 days at the end of the complete training... so I really hope the wind will be blowing, and if not I will play the tourist around the island!

P.S. Ah yes, I'm really pist off... last march when I when on the kitesnow trip in the Magdalen Island with Velum Gravity, one of my big toe nail turned completly blue as my new boots where quite tight. But now, I'm about the loose my right big toe nail... but NO, I don't want!!!
It's not because I'm girly or something, but I would appreciate to keep my nail for the summer at least!
I wish there is an other one under! :-S

Mais là, je suis sur le point de perdre mon ongle d'orteil droit et je ne veux pas!!!
C'est pas parce que je suis capricieuse ou quoi que ce soit, mais l'été arrive et j'aimerais vraiment avoir mon ongle d'orteil! :-(
J'espère qu'il y en a un autre en dessous!

I arrived yesterday in the afternoon in Saint Lucia.
I'm here for 2 weeks (IKO instructor training course, training in the warm water and photos are listed to my program)
No wind up to now, but tomorrow should be better... I cross my fingers.
I will send you some pictures tomorrow.
Tonight I will enjoy some local BBQ and drinks, it should be nice.

Salut!
Si vous voulez voir le trip que nous avons fait avec Velum Gravity aux Iles de la Madeleine en mars dernier, je crois que ça sera présenté samedi prochain (le 1 avril) sur les ondes de Musique +, à midi. Sinon, c'est en reprise dimanche à 16h30, lundi à 15h ou 23h30.
Je suis présentement à Sherbrooke, ou je m'entraîne quotidiennement pour garder la forme avant un petit voyage prévu à la fin avril au Cap Hatteras en Caroline de Nord (États-Unis), avec des gens très sympas rencontrés aux Iles de la Madeleine l'été passé. Ensuite, 2 semaines à St-Lucie dans les caraïbes pour 6 jours de formation IKO et quelques jours de photos et entrainement!
L'été arrive! Woohoo! Je vous tiendrai au courant de mes projets estivaux bientôt!

Hi there!
If you would like to see the trip we did with Velum Gravity in the Magdalen Islands last march, I think it will be broadcast next saturday (April 1st) at noon, on Musique + channel.
If you miss it, it will be rerun at 16h30 on sunday or at 15h or 23h30 on monday.
I'm presently in Sherbrooke. I'm training everyday to keep in shape before going on a little trip in Cap Hatteras in North Carolina (U.S.A.) at the end of April, with really nice people I met in the Magdalen Islands last summer.
Afterward, I will be leaving for 2 weeks inSt-Lucia in the beggining of May. 6 days of IKO training and photos and training for the rest of the journey!
Summer is coming! Woohoo! I will keep you post of my summer projects soon.

Virgin Mobile X-Treme team :: l'équipe Xtreme de Virgin Mobile

It is official, the Virgin Mobile X-treme team has been launched yesterday in Toronto (Canada), and I'm really happy to be part of it!4 girls representing 3 differents sports, Snowboard, Wakeboard and Kiteboard. The other girls are: Amanda Mourrant (Snowboard), Laura Duke (Wakeboard) and Alex Duckworth (Snowboard). I'm looking forward to meet them and I hope that by the fact we are part of that team it will bring visibility for the girls in general in extreme sports!

notre trip hivernal "Velum Gravity" aux Iles de la Madeleine :: our "Velum Gravity" winter trip in the Magdalen Islands

* We left from Montréal around noon on march 2nd to get to Matane more or less 6 hours and a half later.
* On est parti de Montréal en direction de Matane vers midi le 2 mars dernier. Ça l'a pris environ 6h30 de voiture pour s'y rendre.

* We slept there... humm, no... it's wrong... we have been partying there until the next morning... as we were getting on the ferry at 10 a.m. that morning and that for the next 23 hours!
Here is where we have been parking the car on the ferry!
* Nous avons dormi là... humm, non... c'est faux... nous avons fait la fête jusqu'au lendemain... parce que nous embarquions sur le traversier à 10 heure a.m. ce matin là et ce pour les 23 prochaines heures! Voici où nous avons garé la voiture sur le bateau!

* Not longer than 10 minutes after we left the port, the ferry stucked in the ice!
We went backward, then forward... but nothing to do! Hi! Hi! Hi!
We had to required the help of an other boat that was coming into the port.
* Pas plus tard que 10 minutes après notre départ du port, notre traversier c'est coincé dans la
glace! Nous sommes allés de reculons et de l'avant à quelques reprises... mais rien à faire! Hi!
Hi! Hi! Nous avons dû attendre l'aide d'un autre bateau qui lui entrait au port.

* Les chambres à coucher!

* Once there, we all have been badly surprise of the snow conditions. It was already spring over there.
* Une fois débarqué, nous avons tous été déçus de constater l'état de la neige là-bas. A vrai dire c'était déjà le printemps là-bas.

* Actually, they were almost no more snow, only frozen grass, iced lagunas and on top of that 2 day of wind out of 4.
You have to know that in the Magdalen Islands it is almost always windy.
But we did the best we could to take advantage of every little possibilities... here are some pics. * Pour dire vrai, il n'y avait presque plus de neige, seulement du gazon et des lagunes gelés et en plus de ça, seulement 2 jours de vent sur les 4 jours où nous y étions.
Vous devez savoir qu'habituellement il y a toujours du vent aux Iles de la Madeleine.
On a fait tout ce qu'on a pu avec chaque petite possibilités... voici quelques images.

* On our last "not windy at all" day, we decided to get around and enjoy the beauties of the islands... looking like nuts for seals and baby seals.
There is thousand of seals and baby seals around the Magdalen Islands each year during the winter season.
Normally they get on shore as the ice floe is strong enough around the islands, but this year, not many seals decided to get on shore and close enough to be seen by the tourists like us!
We had to negociate with a local fisherman... or more certainly "seal-erman", to get a ride for 8 of us in his really "safe" boat to get on the ice floe further out (understand: no life jackets at all and water ready to freeze you in less than 1 minute).
It was about a 5 minutes ride from the shore.
But the fisherman has been really nice and it has been an INCREDIBLE experience.
He even did want any conpensation from us... 1 beer satisfied him!
* Lors de notre dernière journée sans vent, nous avons décidés de se promener pour profiter des beautés des iles... en recherchant avidement des phoques e des blanchons.
Il y a des milliers de phoques autours des Iles de la Madeleine chaque année durant la saison hivernale.
Normalement, ils viennent près du rivage puisque la banquise qui entoure les iles est suffisemment forte, mais cette année, pas beaucoup de phoques ont décidés de s'approcher du de la berge du moins assez pour se faire admirer par les touristes comme nous!
Nous avons dû négocier avec un pêcheur local... ou plus certainement un "phoque- eur", pour que 8 d'entre nous puissent se rendre sur la banquise un peu plus loin dans son bateau super "sécuritaire" ( comprendre: pas une veste de sauvetage et de l'eau qui est prête à vous figer en moins d'une minute).
C'était à environ 5 minutes de bateau de la rive.
Mais le pêcheur a été vraiment très sympatique et ce fut une expérience INCROYABLE!
Il n'a même pas voulu une compasation de notre part... 1 bière l'a satisfait!

* We took the ferry back on march 10th and arrived on march 11th at Matane.
Nice weather from the deck! Looking forward to get back there for the PKRA World Cup next august.
* Nous avons repris le bateau le 10 mars et le 11 nous arrivions à Matane.
Belle température du pont! Maintenant j'ai déjà hâte d'y retourner en août pour la Coupe du Monde PKRA.

I'm presently getting prepare to leave to the Magdalen Islands tomorrow with the Velum Gravity team for a week of kitesnow, kiteski and kitewing.
S.PA.M., the extreme TV show of Musique Plus channel, is coming along with us to do one of their show.
I got a special sponsorship from SALOMON for this trip. They got me full equiped so I can trade my kiteboard for the twin-tips skis and the snowboard they provide me... and enjoy playing in the snow.
I'm really happy of this partnership, the gear look awsome and I'm so looking forward to try them in couple of days!
Last time I have been kiting on snow it was at my first beggining 4 years ago!!! I'm sure it will be a lot of fun and certainly a good complement to kiteboarding.
So tomorrow we leave for a 6 hours drive and a 23 hours crossing in a ferry... long trip to get there, but for sure it will worth it!

Je me prépare présentement à partir demain vers les Iles de la Madeleine pour une semaine de kiteski, kitesnow et kitewing avec l'équipe du Velum Gravity.
S.P.A.M. l'émission de sports extrêmes de Musique Plus, vient aussi avec nous pour faire l'une de leur émission.
J'ai eu une commandite spéciale de SALOMON pour ce voyage. Ils m'ont super bien équipés pour que je puisse changer ma planche de kite pour des skis twin-tips et une planche à neige... afin que je puisse jouer dans la neige!
Je suis très contente de cette commandite, l'équipement à l'air génial et j'ai très hâte de les essayer dans quelques jours.
La dernière fois que j'ai fais du kite sur la neige c'est il y a 4 ans lorsque je commencais le kite!!!Je suis certaine que je vais avoir beacoup de plaisir et que ça sera un bon complément au kiteboard.
Alors demain on part pour 6 heures de voitures et 23 heures de traversier... ça sera un long voyage pour s'y rendre mais c'est certain que ça va valoir la peine.
Plus de nouvelles une fois là-bas.

Ok I know it's a nasty photo... but it's just to let you know that it's not because you are in a warm country that it always sounds like paradise!
This is only a part of my back... there is more!!!
I went kiting 2 days ago and I got stung by mini jellyfish.
They bite you when they get stuck in between your skin and your clothes.
It's itching like hell. I have to put some stuff on it many times during the night to soothe it.

Je sais c'est une photo horrible... mais c'est pour vous montrer que ce n'est pas parce qu'on est dans un pays chaud que c'est nécessairement le paradis!
Ça ce n'est qu'une partie de mon dos... il y en a plus!!!
Je suis allée faire du kite il y a 2 jours et j'ai été piquée par des mini méduces.
En fait, elles piquent lorsqu'elles restent prises entre la peau et les vêtements.
Ça pique en fou. Je dois mettre des produits plusieurs fois durant la nuit pour apaiser.

windy :: du vent

Today was finally windy... it was not expected (from the weird weather we had in the morning), but at 3 o'clock the fans turned on! ;-)
I tried my new board... I love it! It's perfect.
But now, I'm crossing my fingers for winds for the 2 next days as I'm leaving on friday and we did not get a chance to do any photos yet.
Send me some wind... ;-)

Aujourd'hui on a finalement eu du vent... ce n'était pas vraiment prévu (puisque la météo du matin avait été vraiment bizarre), mais bon les ventilos sont partis vers 3 heures! ;-)
J'ai essayée ma nouvelle planche... je l'adore! Elle est parfaite pour moi.
Mais à partir de maintenant je croise les doigts pour qu'il y ai du vent dans les 2 prochains jours puisque je pars vendredi et qu'on a pas eu la chance de faire aucune photo encore.
Envoyez-moi du vent... ;-)
